Kamnik

0% GREEN Kaj to pomeni?

Kamnik, a medieval town nestled amid Alpine forests along the banks of the Kamniška Bistrica River, is home to the unique shepherding heritage, which has been preserved not far from the town, on the Velika Planina Plateau in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Every summer, shepherds and their animals move up to what is one of the few true and still operating shepherding villages in Europe.

Take a walk to the Orglice waterfall, through the beautiful Arboretum Volčji Potok, or Menina planina, which is great for family trips. And don’t forget to relax – Kamnik has a strong history of Kneipp therapy. Try the unique method of keeping your body and mind healthy in the surroundings of the highest thermal spas in Slovenia – the environmentally friendly Terme Snovik spa.

Meet Kamnik also from the culinary side. Among the ‘Taste Kamnik’ dishes you will find local Tuhinj trouts and the festive dish Tuhinj stuffing. The specialty of the shepherd’s tradition and the modern picking of herbs can be enjoyed in the typical pinecone liquor ‘Rušovc’. Did you know that Kamnik is also the town with the most microbreweries per capita in the world?
