The area around the town of Kočevje, Kočevsko, is one of the best-preserved natural environments in Europe, boasting some of the densest forests on the continent. As much as 80% of the area is covered with forest. Deep in the vast woods are six areas of primeval forests, among them the Krokar, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The vast and well-preserved forests are home to many wildlife species, including large predators, which are only rarely seen living freely in the wild in Europe today. The natural characteristics of this destination provide numerous possibilities for an active vacation, ranging from hiking, cycling, outdoor survival courses, and animal tracking to other activities in the primeval forests.
