Izola
Izola is a picturesque coastal town in Slovenia’s Istria region, known for its authentic Mediterranean atmosphere. Once a fishing town, it now attracts visitors with its beautiful beaches and narrow streets of the old town, where authenticity still prevails. The town is rich in cultural and natural heritage, carefully preserved by locals, and also captivates with its authentic cuisine.
Due to its proximity to the countryside, Izola offers a perfect blend of Istrian and seafood cuisine, complemented by high-quality olive oil and excellent wines. When visiting, try traditional dishes such as sardines, cod, or brodet. A great opportunity for this is the “Pomol okusov” (Pier of Flavors), a culinary event held several times a year.
After a delicious meal, take a stroll to Izolana – House of the Sea, where you can learn more about the town’s history. Then, walk past the Church of St. Maurus, the highest point in the city, which gives it its characteristic silhouette and offers a beautiful view from the bell tower. Also nearby is the Baroque Besenghi degli Ughi Palace, from where the path leads through the town’s streets to the harbor and Manzioli Square, ultimately reaching one of the town’s beaches.
