Kostanjevica na Krki

0% GREEN Kaj to pomeni?

The feeling of the place where the magically green Krka slowly flows around the historic city center in the shape of a painter’s palette leaves few visitors indifferent. Kostanjevica na Krki is considered the smallest and only Slovenian-inhabited town on an island, with cultural and natural heritage, which includes one of the most important Slovenian wetlands, the Krakovski gozd.

Kostanjevica is a popular destination for a relaxed or active getaway along the Krka River and the wine-growing region of Gorjanci. At the foot of these hills lies the Kostanjeviška cave, with 300 meters of its most striking passages open for a guided walk. For a leisurely stroll, head to the Forma Viva Park with wooden sculptures, and visit the Božidar Jakac Gallery. For a more active experience, take a trip down the Krka River on a paddleboard or by boat.

Wine-growing hills around Kostanjevica are the homeland of Cviček, a local wine characterized by its pleasant acidity and light red colour. Did you know that this is the only wine in the world, along with the Tuscan Chianti, that consists of red and white grape varieties? Plan a wine tasting in one of the wine cellars or typical vineyard cottages for an even more authentic experience.
