Nova Gorica
Nova Gorica is located halfway between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. The Europe Square, divided by the national border, is a link with Italy’s Gorizia, a town with which Nova Gorica is deeply connected. Nova Gorica’s youthful city vibe provides a variety of adventures which can be combined with visits to Vipava Valley wine country or getaways to the green Trnovska or Banjška plateaus.
World-class cuisine, rich cultural and historical heritage and numerous recreation possibilities provide opportunities for truly unique experiences. The city of diversity and roses is also Slovenia’s youngest town. From the hilltop, Kostanjevica Monastery invites visitors to explore the crypt of the last descendants of the French royal Bourbon dynasty. Not far from the city, the Solkan Railway Bridge arches over the emerald Soča River, boasting the largest stone arch in the world.
Nova Gorica, with its abundance of fruit and vegetables throughout the year, is generous with its flavours. From fine dining at Zemono Manor to numerous authentic inns serving traditional dishes. One specialty stands out in particular – the radicchio from Goriška, or sukénski régut, as locals call it. In the middle of the winter, when it reaches ripeness, this prized vegetable inspires the most exquisite culinary stories, always paired with carefully selected premium wines.
