Portorož Nights: A summer that brings together music, art and sustainability
As a summer day turns into evening, the sky above Portorož is painted in shades of pink and gold. August in Portorož is truly special — as special as the traditional Portorož Nights, which mark the peak of the summer season at the destination. Portorož Nights are not just concerts and lively summer happenings; they are a genuine feeling. The music that flows through bodies at the concerts, the aromas and exceptional flavors that delight visitors at the culinary promenade, and the excitement when street artists take over the square. Portorož Nights are synonymous with summer, music, gastronomy, and a time when the community gathers to celebrate the season.

A Spectacle by the sea – evenings to remember
The year 2025 once again confirmed why Portorož Nights remain among the most anticipated summer events in Slovenian Istria. In addition to a water-and-fire spectacle, the opening evening also brought the premiere of the culinary promenade on the renovated central square of Portorož. From 6 p.m. onwards, local providers and master chefs presented interpretations of Istrian flavors — from fuži pasta with truffles and Adriatic seafood to pizzas topped with homemade Istrian salsa — all complemented by selected Istrian wines, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages.
The first evening impressed visitors with the water-and-fire spectacle Acqua & Fuoco, where water and fire intertwined in a precisely choreographed fusion of light, movement, and music. The atmosphere was further elevated by the energetic performance of Merqury (a Queen tribute band), whose iconic hits created a distinctly nostalgic mood and revived timeless concert energy.
The second evening unfolded in a more romantic tone with Jan Plestenjak. Ballads such as »Soba 102«, »Večja od neba«, and »Sam da ti maš mene rada« created an intimate seaside atmosphere. Before his performance, the young local band Liquid Gasoline warmed up the audience with confident energy, once again confirming how important local creators are to the event.
The closing evening transformed Portorož into an open-air gallery. The renovated Square of Overseas Brigades became a stage for street art — jugglers, dancers, stilt performers, and musicians created a relaxed and playful atmosphere where the audience experienced the performances up close. Children watched acrobats with fascination, adults paused at dance performances, and the evening seamlessly connected art with the vibrant pulse of the coast.
All evenings were free of charge and open to all generations, positioning Portorož Nights among events with a clear socially responsible character.
When the final notes echo across the sea and the lights slowly fade, what remains is a sense of community — and the memory of an evening that was not only entertaining, but meaningful.
At a time when tourism seeks balance between experience and responsibility, Portorož Nights offer a clear example of good practice. Summer by the sea can be vibrant and unforgettable, while still respectful of the place and the people who co-create it. That is precisely where their greatest strength lies.
The year 2026 will continue and further develop this story. This year’s Portorož Nights will once again bring together music, art, gastronomy, and community by the sea, while placing an even stronger emphasis on sustainability, which is becoming an important part of the event’s identity. Visitors will not only be invited to experience the summer atmosphere along the coast, but also to actively contribute to creating a more responsible and well-organized environment.

Local food providers and visitors come together to create a lively culinary experience by the sea.
Sustainability as part of the event’s identity
But behind the stage, the lights, and the applause, there is another important story. Portorož Nights are not just a summer spectacle, but an example of how a larger public event can operate in line with sustainable principles.
The culinary promenade was based on local providers and seasonal ingredients. Fish from the northern Adriatic, vegetables from Istrian soil, local wines, and olive oil offered visitors an authentic gastronomic experience with a minimal transport footprint. Supporting local producers means fewer emissions, greater food traceability, and a stronger regional economy.
In the 2026 edition, we will further strengthen sustainability measures, also through more visible and direct communication on-site. An eco point, or environmental island, will be set up at the event, featuring clearly marked waste separation to help visitors sort waste in a simple and accessible way. The area will be additionally highlighted with a beach flag, making sustainability more visible and integrated into the overall event experience.
An important new feature this year is the collaboration with the public company Okolje Piran, through which we aim to bring sustainability messages directly to visitors at the venue. The Okolje Piran mascot will also be present, encouraging proper waste separation, responsible behavior in public spaces, and the reduction of food waste in a friendly and engaging way. In doing so, we want to reinforce the idea that sustainability at events is not just an organizational decision behind the scenes, but a shared responsibility of everyone who uses and co-creates the space.
In cooperation with partners, we will also place greater emphasis this year on raising awareness about food and reducing waste. Visitors will be encouraged to order more thoughtfully and adopt a responsible attitude towards food, as we aim to highlight—even at a festival setting—that sustainability encompasses our entire relationship with resources, from packaging to the food we should not take for granted.
Mobility is another important aspect. Seaside venues are easily accessible on foot, by bicycle, or by public transport. Many visitors combine their evening with a walk along the coastal path between Portorož and Piran, reducing traffic congestion while enhancing the overall experience.

The Culinary Promenade offers local dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients from Istria.
A community that co-creates the event
Portorož Nights are an example of how an event can bring together art, tourism, and local identity. The involvement of local stakeholders, organizers, and providers is not just a programming choice, but a strategic direction toward sustainable development. The event strengthens a sense of belonging. When local talents take the stage, when street performers bring the squares to life, and when local providers present their products, Portorož is not just a backdrop, but the heartbeat and co-creator of the story.
Among the concrete features of this year’s edition will also be charity pancakes prepared by local scouts. This element adds an important community dimension to the event, connecting youth, volunteerism, local collaboration, and responsible festival culture. In this way, we aim to show that sustainability is not only about the environment, but also about our relationship with people and place.

Portorož Nights bring together local gastronomy, summer events and a relaxed seaside atmosphere in the heart of Portorož.
More than a festival – an experience with responsibility
In 2026, Portorož Nights will once again remain an invitation to experience summer by the sea, but with a clear message: the top events of the future are not only attractive, but also responsible. This year, visitors will once again be able to enjoy evenings of music, art, and gastronomy, while also becoming part of a story that promotes a respectful relationship with space, community, and the environment.
