From 8 to 24 May 2026, locals and visitors alike can taste imaginative dishes prepared from fresh local ingredients, carefully crafted by talented chefs. This year, chefs from Kranj and nearby municipalities will offer their menus at the price of €30.

“Connecting with other restaurateurs means a lot to us. Fine Cuisine in and around Kranj allows us to showcase and highlight our local suppliers,” says Aleš Kristan from the Pr’ Končovc holiday farm that carries the Slovenia Green label. All local suppliers are listed on the menus, giving guests inspiration to explore nearby farms and encouraging them to get to know the authentic flavours and ingredients that are home to this region.

Here’s some fun facts: the first Fine Cuisine in and around Kranj was held in 2023, with six participating restaurants from Kranj. The following years 2024 and 2025 featured 17 restaurants from five Gorenjska municipalities, making it a truly regional celebration of local culinary excellence.

Fine Cuisine in and around Kranj beautifully connects the region’s chefs, who turn local ingredients into culinary highlights in their own distinctive styles. It also brings together local producers, whose contributions are highlighted on the menus, and unites the Gorenjska municipalities clustered around the largest city in the region.

To mention just a few dishes that delighted visitors at last year’s Fine Cuisine in and around Kranj: At Gostilna Krištof, chef Uroš Gorjanc and his team created delicate spoon dumplings with Carniolan sausage and matured goat cheese. At Gostilna Pr’ Matičku, chef Matjaž Erzar paired smoked trout with chilled Carniolan sausage. At Pr’ Končovc farmstay, chef Aleš Kristan finished the menu with “gibanica” štruklji (sweet rolled dumplings) and house-made ice cream. Chefs from the wider Kranj area also created refined dishes: at Hotel Oskar – Zaplata, guests enjoyed buckwheat with wild mushrooms and Carniolan sausage.
At Gostilna pod Krvavcem, trout carpaccio in beetroot juice was accompanied by orange foam and cucumber caviar. At Firbc okn in Tržič, a favourite local tavern, focaccia with wild garlic and Carniolan sausage was served.

Kranj is a city currently experiencing a genuine culinary boom, with many gastronomic events taking place throughout the year. From May to September, Friday afternoons in the old town come alive with culinary gatherings known as It’s Friday already! (Kr’ petek je!) — when the historic city centre buzzes with food, music and local culture.

In September, one evening in Kranj is traditionally reserved for the green culinary event Kranj Long Table, a celebration of sustainable gastronomy that focuses on local production, short supply chains, self‐sufficiency and green cuisine. On that day, a long table is set up in the courtyard of Khislstein Castle with room for around one hundred guests, offering a unique communal dining experience that highlights the very best of the region’s culinary traditions and locally produced ingredients. Selected dishes are prepared by outstanding local chefs, often joined by guest chefs.  Last year, the event featured Croatian chef David Skoko from the renowned restaurant Batelina. Prior to that, Kranj’s own chefs Igor Jagodic (Restavracija Strelec) and Jorg Zupan (Aftr & Bistro Breg) also joined their colleagues from Kranj at the event. Both are deeply connected to Kranj even though they have spent many years working in Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana.

Fine Cuisine in and around Kranj connects restaurateurs, local suppliers and the culinary stories of Kranj and its surroundings.

The culinary lineup in Kranj doesn’t stop there. Every year in the city centre, Day of Carniolan Sausage and Beer (Dan kranjske klobase in piva) is held, and at Brdo pri Kranju in late summer, locals and visitors alike celebrate Day of Homemade Delicacies (Dan domačih dobrot ).

Local cuisine also flavors various markets, with the monthly markets in Mavčiče and Stražišče often featuring tastings of regional dishes. And soon, a major redevelopment of the central town market is expected, promising a vibrant space deeply connected with local culinary culture.

Returning to Fine Cuisine in and around Kranj: the 2026 event will take place from 8 to 24 May. Beyond the already mentioned highlights, the days of local cuisine help strengthen awareness of the importance of locally produced food, and guests are repeatedly impressed by the culinary masterpieces created by the region’s outstanding chefs.

We warmly invite you once again to explore the rich flavours of Kranj and its surroundings — you’re most
welcome to this year’s Fine Cuisine in and around Kranj!
